Mac Recognizes Printer But Not Scanner Wireless

On a Mac, you can open the System Preferences window, click the “Printers & scanners” icon, and select a printer. Click the “Options & Supplies” button, click the “Supply Levels” tab, and your printer should report how much ink it currently has. If the printer has a built-in display, that may also display how much ink it has left. Resetting the print system clears any error states by removing all HP and non-HP printers, print jobs, and printer preferences. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences. Click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners. Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere inside the Printers window, and then click Reset printing system.

When scanning to Neat you may get the Scanner not connected! message in the scan window. This indicates your scanner was not detected by your Neat software.

On your Mac, if the printer is on the network, choose Apple menu System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners. Add the printer again to create a new printer queue. If you can print to the newly added printer queue, delete the old printer queue. Remove and re-add your printer from the Printers & Scanners System Preferences. On your Mac, go to System Preferences Printers & Scanners. Select your printer from the sidebar then remove it by clicking the Subtract (–) button. Wait at least 30 seconds, then click Add (+) and follow the on-screen prompts to reconnect your printer.

It should be noted that about 90% of scanner detection issues are related to missing or outdated drivers. You probably need to reinstall or update the scan driver for your specific scanner model to get it working in Neat.

You may also need to move your scanner USB cable to another port directly on your computer or try a different USB cable altogether.   • For third-party scanners, check with your scanner manufacturer for the latest TWAIN compatible drivers. With the exception of Fujitsu scanners working with Fujitsu ScanSnap software, your scanner MUST have a TWAIN driver in order to work directly with Neat. You can still scan to your computer and import images into Neat if you don't have a TWAIN scanner but will just not be able to scan directly into Neat.

If you have reinstalled your Neat driver in Windows and it still does not show up in Neat, try the following steps:

  1. Plug the scanner directly into a port in the back of the computer and power it on. Avoid USB hubs or docking stations.
  2. Then hold the Windows Key on your keyboard and type 'device manager' in the search box. Select Device Manager from the results to open it.
  3. Expand Imaging Devices OR Other Devices (depending where your scanner appears).
  4. Look for your scanner model, RIGHT-click on it, and go to Update Driver Software.
  5. Select 'Browse' my computer for driver software.
  6. Select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.
  7. Double - click on your particular 'Neat Scanner' in the 'Show compatible software' box. Then click 'Next'.
  8. Device manager will update the scanner driver and let you know when it is finished. If it requests that you restart your computer, then restart your computer.
  9. Launch Neat and try scanning once more.

If you have reinstalled your third-party scanner driver in Windows and it still does not show up in Neat, try the following steps:

  1. Plug the scanner directly into a port in the back of the computer and power it on. Avoid USB hubs or docking stations.
  2. Then hold the Windows Key on your keyboard and type 'device manager' in the search box. Select Device Manager from the results to open it.
  3. Expand Imaging Devices OR Other Devices (depending on where your scanner appears).

  5. Choose 'Search automatically for updated driver software' and complete the steps to update the driver.
  6. Launch Neat and try scanning once more.

Fix 2: Reset your printing system

Resetting your printing system helps you troubleshoot printer problems on your Mac computer, including issues with your printer-Mac communication. Here’s how you can do it.

WARNING: Resetting printing system removes all your printer, scanner and fax settings and all print jobs. You’ll have to reinstall all your printers and scanners you previously set up on your Mac computer.

  1. On your Mac computer, click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of your screen, then click System Preferences.
  2. Click Printers & Scanners.
  3. Right click an empty area of the device list, then click Reset printing system.
  4. Click the Reset button.
  5. Type your password and click the OK button if you’re prompted to do so, then wait for the process to be complete.
  6. Click the Add (+) button, then select your printer to reinstall it.

Now you should be able to fix your error and use your printer. But if not, you may need to…

Fix 3: Power reset your printer

There may be temporary issues with your printer so you can’t connect it to your Mac computer. And you should try power resetting Omnioutliner pro 5 5 20. (a more thorough way to restart) your printer to see if this fixes your issue. To do so:

  1. While your printer is ON, disconnect the power cable from your printer.
  2. Disconnect all the other cables connected to your printer.
  3. Press and hold the power button on your printer for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cable and all the other cables to your printer.
  5. Check to see if your printer not connected error is fixed.
